Tulsi Gabbard
Tulsi Gabbard is the director of national intelligence (DNI) under President Donald Trump’s administration. As DNI, Gabbard is tasked with overseeing 18 intelligence agencies.
Gabbard is a former Democrat who was a U.S. Representative from 2013 until 2021 on behalf of Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District. In 2019, Gabbard announced her run for president as the Democratic nominee, but ended her campaign in 2020. She later left the Democratic Party to become an independent. A couple years later, she switched to the Republican party.
In 2003, Gabbard enlisted in the Hawaii Army National Guard and was deployed to both Iraq and Kuwait. In 2005, Gabbard earned the Combat Medical Badge for her service. In 2020, Gabbard joined the Army Reserve.
Gabbard’s early government positions included being part of the Hawaii State Legislature from 2002 until 2004, as well as the Honolulu City Council from 2011 until 2012.
